5 Reasons You Should Never Leave the House With Wet Hair in the Winter - Mane Addicts

jembutikal.blogspot.com

It’s not just an old wives’ tale, leaving the house with sopping wet hair during the winter can actually be super rough on your mane. If you can help it, you should avoid it as much as possible, TBH.

Icy, cold weather can cause serious potential damage like dryness, split ends and breakage during this time and we know you are not here for that. To ensure you’re in the know, keep reading below for all the reasons your wet hair in the winter should stay in the house.

1. It can cause scalp discomfort.

Scalp discomfort during the colder months is totally a thing, and this could be why. Dermatologist, Dr. Janet Prystowsky, told Bustle, “In the winter, wet hair would be uncomfortable. [It] would [also] put you at an increased risk of frostbite.” This depends on what kind of climate you live in, but if your area is steeped in below-freezing temperatures during the winter, it’s best to blow dry before heading out. Your strands and scalp may have a negative reaction if hair is still wet, even when properly conditioned. You may feel a tingling or burning as the water in your scalp expands and turns into ice. Yikes.

2. Your hair is more prone to breakage when wet.

When you waltz out of your apartment with soaking wet hair, you’re increasing the risk of breakage tenfold. Your locks are much more vulnerable when wet due to the expansion of water molecules within the hair. This kind of freezing can cause not only scalp discomfort but easier strand breakage, even at the root. If you’re usually a morning shower type who prefers not to blow dry, it might be best to switch to an evening routine so your hair can air dry overnight.

3. It can exacerbate split ends.

We hate to break it to you, but icy weather can also further exacerbate split ends. Due to the expansion of water in your strands, they can also become more stiff. If your ends aren’t trimmed and healthy, this could mean bad news for them when out and about in the cold.

4. It can lead to extra dryness and damage.

Even if you regularly deep condition, low temperatures can suck the moisture right out of your luscious locks. Ugh. Even if you don’t have time in the A.M., it’s best to at least run a towel through your hair with products that seal up the hair follicle. This will help combat dryness and frizz.
