This month especially it’s important to get that hair off your neck — and we found just the fun and practical hair accessories to do it in style. Options abound from hair pins in pretty patterns and classics like barrettes to snazzy headbands and yes, even ‘80s throwbacks like the banana clip and the scrunchie. Here are a few of the best designs out there this summer to cool you off — and even give you a welcome chance to skip shampooing for a day.

When you’re ready to get dressy, reach for Lulus Medusa Gold and Green Snake Hair Clips ($18 on lulus.com ). Shaped like sleek serpents with striking green rhinestones as eyes, they do double duty as ornaments and fasteners to keep your hair held tight into a ponytail.
On the less ornamental side, hair claws can sometimes be as ugly as their name — but they don’t need to be. J. Crew’s Large Claw Hair Clip in tortoise ($24.50 on jcrew.com ) proves as much. It’s made of shiny, hand-cut Italian tortoise that’s been shaped and polished at a mill in France. Or opt for its petite sisters: the Mini Claw Clip Two-pack ($22.50 on jcrew.com ). Remember the banana clip? Well, it’s back from the ‘80s to proclaim its status as the precursor to the hair claw and butterfly clips.
