If you've ever wondered how Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian, and Ariana Grande keep their hair so glossy, it isn't just millions of dollars—it's stylist Chris Appleton. For years, Appleton has credited Color Wow's Dream Coat Supernatural Spray as the secret sauce for getting glass-like hair (he's the brand's Global Creative Director). But any hair expert will tell you that shiny hair starts in the shower. Out today, Appleton and Color Wow have officially collaborated on his first hair product: The Money Masque.

“Masks are something all stylists love because well-conditioned hair is where every great style begins,” he says. The Money Masque is a lightweight gel-cream formula ideal for repairing all hair types (fine and coarse alike). “We’ve all become accustomed to seeing hair trends change so quickly, but you only have one head of hair,” says Appleton. “You have to take care of it and put back the moisture you’re taking out.”

The mask was created to work within your hair to make it supple and strong instead of just giving the illusion of silky strands, with results lasting through three shampoos. “We wanted it to penetrate the hair to deliver hydration down into the cortex,” says Appleton. “Many masks tend to sit on the surface, which closes the cuticle temporarily, but it ultimately weighs the hair down, leaving it flat,” he explains. This is especially frustrating while styling, because hair feels soft but has no performance or hold. Instead, the Money Masque leaves your hair vibrant and bouncy with the help of blue sea kale (to bind damaged keratin in hair), hydrolyzed vegetable protein complex (to strengthen and reinforce the cuticle), and sea kelp and algae (for lasting moisture).

Appleton advises to use the Money Masque after you’ve shampooed your hair, and to apply it starting from the bottom-up (the ends of your hair need more moisture and repair). Leave on for about five minutes and rinse: “Just to let it penetrate into the hair and do its work,” says Appleton. Use it once a week or every three days depending on how often you wash your hair. The more damaged your hair is, the more often you can benefit from the boost of restoring moisture.

Priced at $45, the Money Masque is key for channeling your inner J.Lo. “You know that feeling when you go to the salon and get a blowout and when you leave you feel great about yourself? To me, that’s priceless. That’s the money feeling," he says. "It was a bit tongue-in-cheek, but the idea is everyone deserves to look and feel their best.”
