BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2021 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Palm Beach County man is facing burglary charges after he allegedly tried to break in to a Boca Raton hair salon, claiming children were being held captive behind a wall.

The owners of the “A Suite Salon” in the 2200 block of NW 19th Street in Boca pressed charges against Jonathan Livingston Sanders of Palm Beach Shores.

The police report reads like a QAnon conspiracy theory, although there is no mention of the group in the affidavit of probable cause. Sanders allegedly told police that a “friend” told him the children were being held in the salon.

This is the Boca Raton police department’s narrative of events. We have redacted certain information.

“On 05/15/2021 at approximately 2155 hours, I responded to 2240 NW 19th St, Ste 807 (A Suite Salon) in reference to a white female and white male trying to break into the salon.  Upon arrival, I observed white male, later identified as Jonathan Sanders, screaming and yelling stating “there are kids inside!”  I then told Sanders to calm down, at which point he had a black and gray tool wedged between the inner door frame and outer door frame trying to open the door.  Sanders then picked up a brown bag that was on the ground next to him and slammed it against the door.  I then ordered Sanders to sit down and Sanders was handcuffed for officers’ safety.”

“The witness advised that he and a coworker both saw Sanders and another white female kicking and hitting the glass doors and windows to try and get into the salon where they were.  The two workers were both afraid for their safety, so they called Boca Raton police.  While speaking with a witness, (it appeared that the female suspect) was sitting inside the witnesses’ own vehicle that was parked out front of the salon.”

That woman, Melissa Sanders, was handcuffed by Boca Raton police.

According the police report, Jonathan Sanders was read his Miranda rights and agreed to speak with police without an attorney present.

“Jonathan advised that he was trying to save little children that were inside the salon and the salon had a special wall that kept us from seeing the children.”

Police then spoke with the woman in custody who apparently made the same claim.

“Melisa advised that there were children inside of cubicles and drawers of the salon that she and Jonathan were trying to save.  Melisa stated that she and Jonathan were trying to break the glass and do whatever they could to get inside and save the children.  While speaking with Melisa, I told her that there were no children inside the salon, and Melisa told me over and over to “get down.”

Jonathan Sanders of Inlet Way in Palm Beach Shores was charged with one count of burglarizing an occupied structure and possession of burglary tools with intent to use. He was turned over to a “treatment facility.”

Melisa Sanders of NW 8th Street in Boynton Beach was charged with burglarizing an occupied structure and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. She was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail and later released pending a court date.

The claim of “children inside” is similar to the highly publicized claim that led to a man opening fire in a Georgetown (Washington, DC) Pizza restaurant when he claimed that children were being kept inside. The claim was connected to a QAnon conspiracy theory.

No children were found inside the pizza restaurant in Georgetown, nor were children found in the Boca Raton hair salon.
